Housing in the Fort Gordon Area
Housing Services Office
The Housing Services Office, located in Darling Hall, maintains a
complete up-to-date listing of available housing within local
communities. The Housing Services Office offers counseling and personal
attention to your specific needs, which enables you to choose wisely
from various types of off-post housing. Newcomers are required to report
to the Housing Services Office before seeking off-post quarters. This
office also serves as a relocation point to those members who are
rotating from Fort Gordon to other installations.
The Automated
Housing Referral Network (AHRN) is sponsored by the Department of
Defense and is designed to improve the process of finding available
housing for relocating military personnel and their families.
If living off-post, you should purchase a renter's or tenant's insurance
policy. Your landlord's insurance does not protect your belongings, only
his building. A typical policy costs about $150-200 per year, and is
required by most local lease agreements.

Balfour Beatty Communities
Family housing on the installation was privatized in May of 2006.
Residents will sign a lease with Balfour Beatty Communities and start an
allotment, equal to the amount of the BAH, which will go to Balfour
Beatty Communities. However, Balfour Beatty Communities cannot process
an allotment for partial months, so residents must pay, out-of-pocket, a
pro-rated amount of the first month's rent. This payment is due
when signing the lease with Balfour Beatty Communities. Three
hundred and ten new homes have been built, and all existing homes are
being renovated.
To contact Balfour Beatty Communities for family housing on post, call 706-772-7041.
Balfour Beatty Communities
is located at 155 3rd Avenue, just down the road from the main PX, in the
New Olive Terrace neighborhood.
Looking for Housing Off Post
Remember, in accordance with instructions on your
PCS orders, the Housing Services Office must be your first stop prior to
negotiating any agreements for purchase or rental of off-post housing.
Rent, security deposits, and utility costs can vary widely, so it pays
to do your homework, and the housing counselors are educated in helping
you.
Security deposits are sometimes waived for military personnel.
Otherwise the deposit is usually one month’s rent. If pets are
allowed, there is usually a substantial nonrefundable deposit, usually
ranging from $100-300. Many apartments limit pet size to 25 pounds
and are generally unfurnished.
On-Post Self-StorageDo you have too much STUFF? If so, Fort Gordon has a place to put it!
FMWR operates self-storage mini warehouses on post, conveniently located at the
corner of 29th Street and 3rd Avenue.
There are a total of 106 mini warehouses which are rented on a monthly
basis. Units may be rented for a minimum of one month and a maximum of
one year, renewable on a yearly basis. A one month security deposit is
required.
