SCR-299 Mobile HF Station, 2-8 Mhz, 350 W, R/B SCR-399 (see -399 for components); TM 11-280 Ground mobile AM. Freq range, xmtr 2.0-8.0 mc, rec; 1.5-1.8 mc CW or voice; Transmission range 100 miles, voice or CW, stationary or moving. Xmtr rated output 400 w CW, 300 w voice.  MO or xtal control. Power supplied by Power Unit PE-95 (p/o Trailer K-52) and 12v storage batt or 115 v, 60 cyc AC commercial power and 2 spare 6 v storage batt in Truck K-51; power requirement: 2000 w, 115 v, 60 cyc plus 1500 ww for heater and lights. May be remotely controlled up to a distance of 1 mile using 2 Telephone EE-8-() and Wire W-110-B, supplied. Remote equip provides for remotely keying or voice modulating the xmtr, remotely listening to the rec, and for communicating w/operator of the radio station who assists in the foregoing operations. Entire unit comes in Truck K-51 except Power Unit PE-95 which is p/o Trailer K-52. Frequency Conversion Kit MC-503 gives coverage down to 1 mc. Frequency Conversion Kit MC-516 gives coverage to 12 mc, and Frequency Conversion Kit MC-517 gives
coverage to 18.0 mc. Rec uses 9 ft whip ant and xmtr uses 15 ft whip ant while moving; may use 21 ft whip ant while stationary or 45 ft auxiliary wire ant for 2.0 to 4.5 mc.

SCR-300 Radio Set, Backpack, Motorola (BC-1000), 40-48 Mhz, FM, 2W, TM 11-242, 1945. Also see RC-291, -292, -296. Pack designed primarily for "back-pack" or "on-gnd" operation. FM; freq range 40-48 mc; voice only; transmission range 3 miles (w/lg ant). Xmtr rated output 0.5 w. MO, xtal calibrate control. Power supplied by either Battery BA-70 or Battery A-80; power requirements; xmtr, 0.5 amp at 4.5 v, 25 ma at 90 v and 45 ma at 150 v; rec, 0.3 amp at 4.5 v and 25 ,a at 90 v. Uses 10 ft 8" WHIP ant, or 33" whip ant end loaded. Short whip gives less distance range than 1.2 wave whip. Antenna Equipment RC-291 is available for use w/the set for increasing the distance range obtained by virtue of increase in ant h; not supplied, must be ordered separately.

SCR-399 Mobile HF Station, 2-20 Mhz, 400 W CW, 300 W AM; (two BC-342 receivers, Hallicrafters BC-610 transmitter, BC-614 speech amplifier, BC-939 ant. tuner, BC-1052 multimeter, RA-63 rectifier, in HO-17 shelter on 6 X 6 truck; PE-95, -197 power units in K-52 trailer). Developed into AN/GRC-26 & AN/MRC-2. Also see SCR-299, SCR-499 TM 11-281, 1945. MC-543 provides added equipment for two-kW RITTY operation. Gnd, mobile; set is similar to Radio Set SCR-299-C except set is installed in Shelter HO-17 combined w/power plant normally carried in Trailer K-52. Shelter HO-17 may be mtd on a Truck 2 1/2 Ton 6 X 6 (not supplied w/set), or on level grid for fixed operation; xmtr freq range is 2.0-18.0 mc and may be extended down to 1.0 mc by use of Frequency Conversion. Kit MC-509, not supplied.

SCR-474 Receiver-Transmitter

SCR-499 Radio Set, shelterless air-transportable version of SCR-399. Air transportable; high power radio station similar to Radio Set SCR-399, except no shelter or trailer provided and components are packed for transportation by air. When installed in Truck 1/4 Ton 4 x 4, Antenna Equipment RC-293 (end fed 3/4 wave) is supplied which together w/Counterpoise CP-15 is used instead of the doublet kit. TM 11-281

SCR-501 DF Receiver

SCR-502 DF Receiver, 1.5-30 Mhz (BC-1147), FTR Co., later AN/CRD-2; TM 11-256, 1945. Also see RC-223. An air-transportable gnd radio direction finder, covering the freq range 1.5-30 mc. Used by AAF and AGF for radio intelligence purposes and gnd aid to air navigation. The ant system includes 2 sets of 4 equally spaced mono poles and 1 sense ant, ea connected to rotating goniometric units through RF transmission lines. Each goniometer is connected through transmission lines to the receiving and indicating system, which is housed in a collapsible shelter remotely removed from the ant system, w/provisions for switching to either any system. Instantaneous visual bearing indication is provided on a CR oscilloscope. The equip is essentially similar to Radio Set SCR-291-() except that an additional ant system is employed to cover the higher freq band up to
30 mc.

SCR-503 DF Receivers (BC-973, 0.1-3 Mhz; BC-1003, 0.1-1 Mhz); TM 11-246. Direction finding; designed to determine direction of radio xmtrs operating within the freq of 100 kc-3000 kc which is the operating range of this set; receives CW, tone, voice. Provided understandable reception at the same time direction is being determined; 12 v storage batt provides power for the equip thru Dynamotor Unit PE-133 which provided 230 v for the rec plate supply; power required 5.3 amp at 121 DC. Uses loop ant and telescopic sense Antenna AN-45 which extends from 16 1/2" to 9 1/2".

SCR-504 DF Receiver 0.1-65 Mhz, BC-792; TM 11-862, -1460, 1943. Portable radio DF; batt operated; 8 tube superheterodyne; freq range 100 kc to 65 mc in eight bands; receives CW, tone, voice; Battery Charger PE-128, supplied w/set, will operate from either 6 v or 12 v storage batt. (Set is enclosed in suitcase type carrying case; uses single turn loop ant as directional pickup and collapsible rod ant as a non-directional pickup; has "sense" device used to determine direction of xmtr.)

SCR-505 Transmitter, 2-20 Mhz high-power mobile unit. See SCR-597.

SCR-506 Vehicular Radio, GE, 2-4.5 Mhz (BC-652 receiver, BC-653 transmitter, BC-658 control box) TM 11-630, -4007, 1944. Basic 12 v unit; designed for vehicular installations for com between these vehicles and airplanes or base stations. AM; freq range, xmtr 2.0-4.5 mc providing 126 channels 20 kc apart, rec freq range 2.0-6.0 mc. Xmtr rated output 80 w CW, 20 w voice. MO, xtal calibrate control; 5 preset channels one of which is tunable. Power supplied by vehicular 12 v, or 8 amp at 12 v while on standby; for rec 7 amp at 12 v. Uses 15 ft whip ant, optional in fixed location or 25 ft whip or 22 1/2 ft aux wire ant.

SCR-509* Pack radio, 20-28 Mhz FM, 1 W (80 xtals) (BC-620); TM 11-605, 1943. Also see SCR-510, -609, 610. Pack; low power; FM; freq range 20.0-27.9 mc; voice only; transmission range 5 miles. Xmtr rated output 1.8 w. Xtal control, 2 preset channels. Power supplied for xmtr by Battery BA-39, for rec by Battery BA-40 and BA-41; power requirements for xmtr, 0.7 amp at 1.5 v DC, 45 ma at 90 v DC, 0.3 amp at 7.5 v DC, 45 ma at 150 v DC; for rec 0.7 amp at 1.5 v DC and 25 ma at 90 v DC. Uses 8 ft telescoping whip ant.

SCR-510* Vehicular Radio, 20-28 Mhz FM, 1 W; (BC-620 transceiver, PE-97 power unit, PE-120 vibrapack, AN-45 antenna), for dry batteries, 6 V, or 12 V; TM 11-605, 1943. Also see SCR-509-609/ -610, and RC-163.

SCR-511* Radio Set, portable "guidon" design, Motorola, 2-6 Mhz, 0.75 W (BC-745 transceiver, -746 tuning unit, T-39 chest unit, dry batteries); TM 11-245, 1943. Also see RC-303. Pack and vehicular. AM; freq range 2.0-6.0 ma; voice only; transmission range 5 miles. Xmtr rated output 0.75 w. Xtal control; 1 channel available at any one time; freq is charged by changing tuning unit. Power is supplied by Battery BA-49, or by Battery BB-54 and Power Supply Unit PE-157; power requirements for xmtr 490 ma at 1.5 v DC and 50 ma at 120 v DC; for rec 355 ma at 1.5 v DC and 20 ma at 67.5 DC. Installed in vehicle or carried as guidon by man on horseback or (using 1 dry batt) as one man load. When used w/Power Supply Unit PE-157, the  self-contained 2 v storage batt can be exchanged from a 6 v or 12 v storage batt.

SCR-517 Radar, early airborne S-band (BC-781, -931, -932, -955, -992, -993, -995, BC-1101). Also see RC-227

SCR-518 Aircraft radar altimeter, 515 Mhz (BC-688, -689, -690). R/B SCR-618 and SCR-718; AN 08-10-172, 1934. High altitude altimeter. Includes a complete set of apparatus for installation in aircraft for use in determining the height above the terrain. The normal range of equip is from 0 to 20,000 ft, but is operative to an altitude of approx 30,000 ft. All necessary voltages, other than pri source, are generated within the equip. The source of power is an aircraft DC supply of 24 to 28.6 v. Total power consumed is approximately 3000 w.

SCR-543* Transmitter-Receiver, Hallicrafters, (BC-669); TM 11-625, 1944. Ground, transportable and Vehicular, transportable command set for use in vehicle or as field station. AM; freq range 1.68-4.45 mc; voice only; transmission range 20 miles stationary, 15 miles moving. Xmtr rated output 45 w/xtal control; 6 pre-set channels. Power supplied by Power Unit PE-108 (including 12 v storage batt) and Power Supply Unit PE-110; POWER REQUIREMENTS, REC 220 W, 115 V, 60 CYC OR 5.5 AMP AT 12 V dc: TRANSMITTING 550 W AT 115 V, 60 CYC AT 85% PF. Rec may be operated from storage batt when engine gen is not operating. Xmtr and power unit may be controlled from a distance of 18 ft w/Remore Control Unit RM-21, supplied. Uses 15 ft whip ant and a 7 ft radial counterpoise added for non-vehicular use.

SCR-555 Receiver, DF, 18-65 Mhz (BC-1005, RC-93, and PE-1554); TM 11-251, 1944. A semi-portable gnd station radio direction finder designed to operate over a freq range of 18 to 65 mc in two bands. Visual bearing indication is provided by means of a right-left meter indicator. Aural-null bearing indication is also provided. Complete assembly is demountable in sect that are pkd in chests furnished by the mfr. Freq coverage: Band #1, 18 to 34 mc; Band #2, 34 to 65 mc. One of the four 12 v storage batt supplied w/this equip furnishes v for all tube heaters, dial indicator lamp, meter lamps, heater lamps, mic and the pri of the dyn unit. High v power output as measured at the headphone jack is 300 mw.

SCR-578 Transmitter, "Gibson Girl" life-raft type, 500 KHZ CW-MCW (BC-778 transmitter plus antenna kite and balloons), R/B AN/CRT-3A; AN 08-10-94, 1943. Portable xmtr used in rubber dinghies for sea rescue purposes; similar to the German "Not Sender NS-2." The set is pretuned to the international distress freq 0.500 mc, modulated at 1,000 cps, and it has an oper range of 200 mi, or to aircraft at 2000 ft. The ant is of the wire type, and is raised by a balloon or kit to 300 ft. There are two vacuum tubes in the xmtr. A built-in gen operated by a hand crank serves as the source of power, and the power output of the xmtr is 4.8 w. The xmtr is shaped to fit between the knees of the operator; it is watertight and is capable of floating. Provision is made for both automatic and manual keying. Principal components are Radio Transmitter BC-778, Antenna Wire W-148, Parachute M-276, Bag BG-109 and BG-110, Hand Crank GC-18, Generator  M-315 (Hydrogen) and Balloon M-278

SCR-581 Radar Set

SCR-582 Radar, 10-cm harbor-defense (BC-912, -922, -926, -952 to -956); TM 11-1212, -1312, -1412, -1512, 1944. Consists of a complete set of apparatus for gnd installation for use in locating targets on the surface of the water, to distance as far as 90,000 yd. The set of main components when equipped w/tubes and fuses, cable interconnections and pri power source connections, constitutes a complete and operative equip. The pri source of power is 60 cyc 110 v alternating cur, supplied either through commercial lines to the installation point, or by a gasoline driven motor gen provided for use in emergencies or in the absence of commercial power
