Instructions | Request Form | Categories
Hometown News provides release about Army personnel to media organizations in their hometowns. The Hometown News Release Program is a commander's program for giving proper public news coverage of individual solder and civilian employee achievements and involvement in worthy activities.
The program provides a means to convey positive Army life to the public and to tell the Army story.
Read the instruction before completing the Hometown News Release Information form. Once you have read it and the instruction on adding a digital image complete the DD Form 2266, print it using your printer, make sure all the information is correct, sign and date the form, scan it as a Pdf, save it with the individual's last name and then send it via e-mail message as an attachment.
Provide supporting information such as award citations or a biography for retirement and photographs. Supporting information can be submitted electronically, too. Text documents can be scanned as a PDF and also saved with the individual's last name and then sent via an e-mail message as an attachment.
Sending Images
Sending digital Images To send digital images to accompany the DD Form 2266 electronically, a negative or image needs to be scanned with the following output parameters:
Output needs to be a minimum of 200 dpi output resolution with an output image size no smaller than 4x5 or 5x4 inches in width and length.
Do not scan at a lower resolution and/or image size, then resize in Adobe Photoshop or other image manipulation software to meet our requirements. If this is done, even through it appears fine on the computer monitor, it will print with jagged pixels, known as pixelization and will not be acceptable for release. The image must meet these requirements from the original scan.
Do not do any unsharp marks, brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, auto levels or level adjustments. The image then needs to be save as a JPEG, with the .jpg extension on the file name. JPEG compression setting should be not lower than 6 (or 60%). The name of each file should be the last name of the individual in the photograph. Once the image is saved as a jpg, attach it to the email as an attachment.
Provide the names of the individuals in the photo and tell what is happening, such as: Sgt. John D. Doe Jr. receives the Army Commendation Medal from Col. Tommy Johns, commander, U.S. Army Garrison, Fort McPherson, GA.
