Transitioning a Special Needs Student
Before you leave your current duty station you should complete the following checklist:
- Contact your child’s special education teacher, and request assistance in obtaining essential documents, such as your student’s current IEP.
- Schedule an Annual Review and Dismissal meeting to discuss the progress your child has made.
- Document any suggestions your child’s current teacher may have to help assist his/her new classroom teacher. (A classroom teacher can often times identify which modifications work best for a student in a particular situation).
- Request a copy of your child’s complete academic record. Please be sure to hand carry these items to the next school. Do not pack these documents with your household goods.
- Be sure to refill all medical prescriptions that your child will need for the next few months.
Please ensure your CYSS School Liaison Office is aware of the pending transition of your student during your out-processing. School Liaison Officers can help ease the transition of your student.
