Fabrication Shops
The Fabrication Section is comprised of five highly functional shops, Cabinet Shop, Electronics Shop, Machine Shop, Plastic Shop, and Paint Shop. Utilizing these five shops, the Fabrication Section develops Explosive Ordinance Devices, (EOD) training devices, communications mockups, Implosive Explosive Devices, (IEDs) training devices, and local training devices.
The Cabinet Shop fabricates PT stands, clearing barrels, communication shelters, and other devices made from wood, foam board and other building materials. The Cabinet Shop is also responsible for designing and building custom crates for devices that are shipped worldwide.
The Electronic Shop creates, designs, and fabricates non-industry standard electronic training devices. Analyzes schematic diagrams to troubleshoot and repair wireless, motion activated, and vibration activated devices. Maintains and performs modifications on electronic devices used to measure and test alternating and direct current, resistance, capacitance and continuity. Produces test equipment used to attenuate and absorb amplitude and frequency modulated signals.
The Machine Shop has become highly technical in the use of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Machinery, (CAD-CAM). The EOD devices are fabricated from raw stock utilizing a full range of Computer Numerical Control, (CNC) machinery and various manual machines, along with welding capabilities. Additionally, the Machine Shop designs and fabricates a wide range of recreation and installation signs using CAD/CAM software and CNC routers.
The Plastic Shop uses a wide range of production techniques to fabricate more than 270 devices. These highly detailed devices are manufactured using processes such as rotational molding, bench top molding and injection molding. The Plastic Shop is highly involved in the final assembly of devices.
The Paint Shop is one of the final process steps in the fabrication of training devices. The majority of the fabricated devices go through a 2-5 step process which involves priming, painting, striping, stenciling and then assembling. Once the paint process is completed, the Production Manager and Work Leader will quality inspect the item.
All local and non-local customers should submit their Training Devices Fabrication Request, (TDFR), TRADOC PAM 350-9, to the Fort Gordon Training Support Officer, (TSO). For further information call COM: (706) 791-3341 or DSN: 780.
